Membership

A professional home for a profession that does not have one yet.

Membership is for people whose decisions matter in prediction markets — the ones designing contracts, running venues, supervising desks, advising clients, or studying what the prices mean. The founding cohort is open.

Tracks

Three ways to belong.

01

Member

Practitioners, operators, researchers and students working in or adjacent to these markets.

  • Access to publications and method notes as they are released
  • Participation in the standards comment process
  • Standing to propose work to the research agenda
  • War Room: open or join a room to work an advocacy position with other members before it goes out

02

Credentialed member

Members who want their professional judgment assessed and on the record.

  • Everything in Member
  • The assessed credential pathway and its renewal modules
  • A verifiable credential record others can check

03

Institutional member

Venues, firms and research groups who want their teams working from the same standard.

  • Team access to publications and standards drafts
  • Named participation in the comment process
  • A route to sponsor open research under published disclosure terms

The PMA-CICP credential track is still being built. No credential has been issued yet, and admission to the founding cohort is not admission to a credential.

Fees for the founding cohort have not been set and are not published here. Applicants will be told the terms in writing before any commitment is required.

How to join

Four steps, no mystery.

Membership is a request to join. The credential track turns that request into an application to sit the assessment: Request to join → Membership review → Apply to take the exam → Admitted

  1. 01

    Apply

Tell us what you work on and what you would want from the Institute. Applications are read by a person.

  2. 02

    Review

Membership review confirms relevant professional context. The credential track adds an assessment.

  3. 03

    Admission

Admitted members receive access to the workspace and the publication and comment channels.

  4. 04

    Renewal

Standing is renewable. Credentialed members complete material-change modules as the markets move.

The exam

PMA-CICP

The assessment is the credential. It is aimed at the CTAs and RIAs who are already being asked about these contracts by clients, and it is a working name until trademark clearance.

Not yet scheduled

Exam sittings are not yet scheduled.

The PMA-CICP assessment is in development and has not been administered. Applicants on the credential track are recorded and will be contacted when the first sitting is set. No date is published here until one exists.

Waivers

Holders of the CFA, CFP, FRM designations may claim a waiver against parts of the assessment. A waiver is a claim until the Institute verifies it — uploading a certificate records the claim, it does not grant the exemption.

  • Waiver claimed — evidence not yet uploaded
  • Evidence received — awaiting verification
  • Verified

Directory

Admitted members may opt in to a public directory. Opt-in means an affirmative choice: members who never answered the question are not listed, and the directory shows nobody until there are admitted members who chose to appear.

Scope

What membership is not.

Membership of the Institute, and any credential it confers, is a statement about professional competence and nothing more. It is not a licence, registration, authorisation, or approval by any regulator or exchange, and it is neither approved nor required by the CFTC, the NFA, or any other regulator. It does not permit advice, solicitation, trading, custody of client assets, or any particular transaction, and it does not substitute for the law of your jurisdiction, your firm's supervision, or a venue's own rules.

The Institute does not provide investment advice and publishes no recommendation to buy, sell or hold any contract.

Prediction Markets Institute

What if tomorrow was predictable?

An independent research institute for prediction markets. We publish research and methods, set out design standards, and convene the people who build, supervise and study these markets.

Prediction Markets Institute (PMI) is the organisation. PMA-CICP is the credential it is establishing. This site is named after the credential, not after a second body.

Prediction Markets Institute is an independent research and standards body. It does not claim tax-exempt status.

The Institute is a research and professional body. It is not a regulator, an exchange, a designated contract market, a broker-dealer, or a registered investment adviser, and it is not authorised, endorsed or approved by any such body. Membership and any credential the Institute confers attest to professional competence only; they confer no licence, registration or permission to advise, solicit, trade, or handle client assets, and are neither approved nor required by the CFTC, the NFA, or any other regulator. The PMA-CICP credential is in development and has not been issued.

Nothing on this site is investment, legal or tax advice, an offer or solicitation to buy or sell any contract, or a prediction of any outcome. Prediction market and derivative contracts carry risk, including total loss.
